2019 July 4th Writing Contest

On July 20, 1969, American Astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed the Apollo 11 lunar module Eagle on the moon, taking that famous first step and planting the American flag. We've been to the moon and back, and now we can fill in the blanks. However the success of the mission was not certain, and it meant very much to so many.

 

ESSAY CONTEST

  • Submit an original Essay and/or Poem about the theme “To the Moon & Beyond.”
  • Limit one essay and one poem per person.
  • 500 word limit.
  • Email each entry separately, with name, (age if under 18), address, phone, and email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. with "Writing Contest" in the subject line.
  • Or Mail to: Granville Kiwanis Writing Contest, PO Box 133, Granville, Ohio 43023, postmarked by July 31.

Note, by submitting an entry to the contest, you are agreeing to let us reprint all or part of your entry in our followup newspaper, web and contest coverage and reporting. We will give the authors full credit.

SPECIAL PRIZE

Lego Model kit of the NASA Apollo Saturn V rocket, which propelled the Apollo 11 and lunar module Eagle into space. ($120 value)

Hosted by the Granville Kiwanis with live music, food and a fantastic fireworks display, sponsored by The Granville Community Foundation.

Join us for fireworks and a great night of family entertainment. Free and open to the public. Bring your blanket or lawn chairs and reserve your spot. Refreshments and restrooms available. Parking is limited, we recommend walking. Enjoy the downtown festival midway and entertainment all day.
