Awards will be given for the following eight categories. Special recognition for photos displaying this year's theme Together in Spirit.  Photos will be judged based on creativity, uniqueness and quality.

2020 July 4th Writing Contest

There is no formal writing contest this year. However we welcome any original poem or essay on this year's theme "Together in Spirit." 2019 July 4th Writing Contest

On July 20, 1969, American Astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed the Apollo 11 lunar module Eagle on the moon, taking that famous first step and planting the American flag. We've been to the moon and back, and now we can fill in the blanks. However the success of the mission was not certain, and it meant very much to so many.

On Saturday, the 4th of July we will conduct the Granville Kiwanis July 4th Tour Through Town. Our tour will feature:
  • An Honor Guard provided by American Legion Post 398
  • 2020 Grand Marshall Jane Copenhefer, retired Licking County 4-H band Director and 2020 Ohio 4-H Hall of Fame Inductee 
  • Granville Kiwanis President Terry Van Offeren
  • T100’s Rolling Thunder.
  • Granville Police and Granville Township Fire vehicles will lead and escort the Tour. 
The tour will begin at Wildwood Drive at 10:45 AM and travel east through downtown to Thornwood Crossing. Don’t forget to “look up” at 10:50 when the flyover comes to town, courtesy of the Appalachian Air Force!

Appalachian Air Force Fly Over on July 4th at 10:50 AM. Look to the skies for this patriotic salute to the community thanks to Kiwanian Craig Washka for organizing this amazing tribute. Thanks to the volunteers of THE Appalachian Air Force - Lead Pilot, Jeff Wheeler of Pataskala will be flying a Bellanca Super Viking, 300 HP Low Wing Single; Flanked by Greg Pfeil of West Jefferson in a Piper Aztec Twin and Chris White of Granville in a Beechcraft Twin Bonanza, the"T-Bone." Don't go too far, the group promises to make a second pass which you won't want to miss!

Home and Neighborhood Decoration Contest July 3rd at 9:00AM. Decorate your home and encourage your neighbors to join you for this first ever Home and Neighborhood decorating contest. Decorate your home in the spirit of Independence Day and show your patriotic pride. To enter, email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. with your name, address(s) and cell number by Saturday, June 27th. Judging will take place beginning at 9:00 AM on July 3rd. Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd Place in 2 categories, Individual Home or Neighborhood (2 or more houses entered together). And if you missed the registration, you can enter your decorated home into the Photography Contest - see below!

Sidewalk Chalk Event July 3rd from 10:30AM - 12:30PM. This free and open to the public event will take place on July 3rd downtown Granville from 10:30AM -12:30PM. We provide the chalk and you show off your American spirit and creativity using our "Together in Spirit" theme. No preregistration required. Families or individuals are welcome. Check in at Windstream Park (next to the Village Office), then we will assign an area for you to make your chalk creation.
